Ryan joined the firm upon his graduation from Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law where he graduated summa cum laude and served as a Managing Editor of the Cleveland State Law Review. He is a licensed attorney in Ohio and Michigan.

Ryan represents clients in proceedings in both federal and state courts, as well as before administrative agencies. He has appeared before federal courts of appeal, federal district courts, USDA administrative proceedings, and courts throughout the state of Ohio. He also represents clients in non-litigation matters including contract negotiations and in facilitating agreements between debtors and creditors.

Ryan also represents local clients in general matters including estate planning, personal injury cases, and small business representation. His local clients receive the same attention and skill as do those clients he represents on a national level.

Significant Cases

Select Milk Producers v. Johanns, 400 F. 3d 939 (D.C. Cir. 2005). Ryan successfully defended an award of attorney fees for two dairy cooperatives who had prevented the implementation of new regulations that would have deprived dairy farmers nationwide of hundreds of millions of dollars per year. This victory clarified the definition of “prevailing party” under the Equal Access to Justice Act and other federal statutes and preserved the right to recover attorney fees for aggrieved persons following the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Buckhannon Bd. & Care Home, Inc. v. W.Va. Dept of Health and Human Res., 532 U.S. 598 (2001).
